Jossi Wells hit the slopestyle course for his first competition of Winter X Games 14, and with a solid performance has made it through to the nine-man final that takes place Saturday, 30 January (MST) - Sunday, 31 January (NZT).
Three of New Zealand's top slopestyle snowboarders, Stef Zeestraten, Nick Brown and Nick Hyne represented NZ at the first-ever World Cup Slopestyle in Calgary today and all three made it through qualifiers to the 12-man final that takes place tomorrow.
New Zealand's Amy Sheehan, who received a late invite to the Winter X Games,was the first woman skier to represent NZ at an X Games and competed in the women's superpipe elims yesterday after only two weeks on the snow this season and with one day's notice that she'd be competing at all.
Sheehan was the first competitor in the pipe officially opening Winter X Games 14. While she put down a solid run, she missed the six woman cut-off for the finals.
Look for more action as a busy weekend unfolds with more X Games to come, the finals of the men's World Cup Slopestyle, and big mountain skier Janina Kuzma's first stop on the Freeride World Tour.
Cross country skier Andy Pohl also begins a long week of competition at the World Juniors and some of New Zealand's top ski racers, including Sarah Jarvis and Ali McGlinn, hit the slopes of the French Alps for a Europa Cup race.
