Pohl's current FIS points now stand at 108. He is closing in on his aim of 100, the current New Zealand Olympic qualification standard.
"He is pleased with the improvement but knows there is more to be achieved," commented John Burridge of New Zealand Cross Country Ski Association.
"Andy has his sights firmly set on a Winter Olympic spot in 2014."
Pohl was one of the youngest competitors at this Under 23 15Km classic race, where experience and kilometres under your skis counts. Taking those with the same birth year as himself he was 13th with three Americans and three Canadians in the 12 who finished ahead of him.
"Beating the Aussies was not the ideal way to say thank you for all the support he has had from them but as the ad says, ‘it is in his DNA'," said Burridge.
His next race at the Championships is a 30Km pursuit after which he heads back to his base in Canmore, Canada for his first World Cup competition, where he will join team mate Katie Calder, who is also competing in the event.
Pohl is supported in part by Nordic development and the Skeggs Foundation.
He is seeking additional support to help him reach his 2014 Olympic dream.
