The third stage of the Freeride World Tour was held on the Silverado venue in Squaw Valley USA. With its playful terrain the riders put up a great show for the hundreds of cheering locals, pushing the limits with a ‘best of two runs' format. The high point of the day was the women stepping up the game with a great level of riding, taking the same big cliff jumps as the men and creative line choices. Local Squaw Valley skier and Freeride World Tour wild card Jaclyn Paaso was without a doubt the biggest crowd pleaser. She took a massive cliff jump at the bottom of the face, faster and higher than most of the men, challenging them for the second heat.
The comp was supposed to be held on the Tram Face at squaw valley but a large avalanche occurred on Tram Face just minutes before competitors were to start their runs. The comp was then put on hold and ran today. (check out video below)
In the first run of two, riders had a lot of fun riding on the Silverado face with lots of features thus many opportunities for interesting jumps and tricks. The two most impressive runs were: Kaj Zackrisson with a 360, then spread eagle and massive jump; Jaclyn Paaso, local rider, with a cliff jump bigger than any of the men!
From Janina's Blog
They decided that it was going to be based on best of two runs on Silverado. I ended up having a solid first run coming in 5th and then fell on my second run putting me in 6th place for today and an overall 5th position on the overall freeride world tour rankings.
It was the strongest womens flied Ive ever competed in having the top 10 riders in the word in Squaw. Jackie Paaso threw down the line of the day sending and stomping the biggest cliff in the men and womens field. Ane Enderud had two solid runs putting her in 2nd place and Ingrid Backstrom through down on her second run placing her in 3rdposition in the rankings.
Henrik Windstedt won it for the mens ski and Xavier de Le Rue for the snowboard with Shannan Yates winning it for the womens snowboard.
This results from today puts me in a good position to receive a wild card for the 4th and final stop of the NIssan Freeride World Tour in Verbier, Switzerland . Keep you posted
