The Porters Free-ride Team will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of their new coach for the 2010 winter season at Porters.

Leigh Edwards, a fully qualified ski instructor, is set to bring his skills and knowledge on the freestyle scene down under to Porters, where he will be a member if the Porters Snow Sports School. While providing tuition to the general public via the Snow Sports School, Leigh will also work in closely with the Porters Free-ride Team.

The Free-ride Team is part of the Porters Training Programmes, and offers specific training and coaching across a range of free-style and free-ride disciplines for young skiers aged 10 to 18 years. The programmes run throughout the winter season at Porters.

Leigh grew up in England, learning to ski in Austria at the age of 14. Having now worked as a ski instructor at Whistler (BC) and more recently Mammoth Mountain (CA), he is excited about his first New Zealand winter. "I am extremely excited to come to NZ and especially Porters, to see what the mountain has to offer and shred the park!"

The current season in Mammoth is his fifth, and Leigh is passionate about the ski area. "My favourite park to ski is main park Mammoth, it has some great features - sick jibs and a great XL jump line. It has allowed me to tune some of my favourite tricks like front flips and 5's, and I am currently working on cork 7's and rodeo 5's."

Following recent skiing in the park at Mammoth this winter, Leigh put together a brief clip to showcase the Mammoth park in action.

Places in the Porters Training Programmes are still available for the upcoming winter. Spots fill fast, first-in first-served, and all athletes must apply via the Porters website before 1st June 2010.

Additionally, Porters Early-Bird Season Passes are on sale now, with the early rates, including the ULTIMATE Family Season Pass, available through until the 30th of April 2010.
