Snow Sports New Zealand today announced the roll out of a snowboard and freeski national series.

The series includes a select group of events at various resorts throughout New Zealand and targets freeskiers and snowboarders aged 16 and under.

The goal of Snow Sports New Zealand and participating resorts in creating this series is to promote structure within New Zealand snowboarding and freeskiing events. Consistent event management, fairness to riders, and consistent judging have all been identified as key to ensuring successful events and growth of the sports.

A Rider Ranking points system is now in place so that competitors can gauge their results against others in the country that are competing in similar events. The Rider Ranking is updated at the culmination of each event and will be displayed on the SSNZ website and partner websites. The new Rider Ranking will also be used to allocate places for the Junior Nationals if demand is greater than available spaces.

The series focuses on overall winners not individual disciplines, thus promoting all around riding and skill development. It is a major step in developing more of New Zealand's competitive skiers and riders while bringing their skills and techniques up to an international standard.
