"It was a fantastic week of competition," said Snow Sports New Zealand's Director of Coach and Sport Development, Adam Dooney. "The Cardrona events crew, event volunteers, and parents all worked very hard to make this event a success; as did the athletes, who gave it their all every day, showcasing the progression they've made throughout the season."
The competition included snowboard slopestyle, ski halfpipe and ski slopestyle all of which will feature for the first time ever at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
"It's exciting to see the up and coming freeskiers and snowboarders, and for the first time know that some of these competitors could well represent New Zealand as future Olympians," said Dooney.
New Zealand's Overall Junior National Champions were named based on their combined results in five events (Calci Yum Dual Giant Slalom, Salomon Ski or Snowboard Cross, Smith Ski or Snowboard Slopestyle, Salomon Ski Halfpipe or Bonfire Snowboard Halfpipe and K2 Ski or Snowboard Big Mountain). Champions were named in each of four age divisions: Grommets (10 and under) | Youth (11 - 13) | Juniors (14 - 16) | Rookies (17 - 19).
