Fifteen centimetres of new snow fell overnight Tuesday adding to the already deep snow cover. Whakapapa has a snow base of 191cm and Turoa boasts a base of 230cm.
"It couldn't be better for Labour Weekend,"
said Dave Mazey, General Manager for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts. "The weather has been frustrating for the school holidays but the bonus is a good snow fall giving us excellent snow conditions for Whakapapa's last weekend.
"With fine weather forecast we are expecting great conditions at both ski areas. We call it a 'blue bird alert'."
Turoa will remain open until November 6. Season Passes for next year go on sale at discounted rates from November 1.
