Within hours of the earthquake, Porters realised that we could help Christchurch by offering the 500 KVA generator which runs our snowmaking system, to the power company, Orion.

The generator is housed in a large container, making its transportation to Christchurch efficient and speedy.

A few hours after leaving its site at the snowmaking pond and being hauled down the Porters access road onto Highway 73, it was relocated in Rockinghorse Road, Southshore near New Brighton. We are happy to have helped those citizens who had been without power for so long and we hope your lives in your lovely seaside suburb are a little easier.

Trevor Hone, of Trevor Hone Builders, is one of our loyal season pass holders. Since the earthquake, Trevor's staff have been flat out doing much needed emergency repairs to people's houses in the hill suburbs of Christchurch. And Trevor due to his experience has been called on to do emergency assessments. But a problem they struck was not having enough vehicles to do all this. So we offered Trevor one of our van's so his team can focus on this important work. We are thrilled to be able to help Trevor and his team get their work done. Trevor - there will be a nice cold beer waiting for you at the Porters Cafe on opening day - 24 June.

Porters has also offered the staff quarters at the ski area as emergency housing for any families in need. If you and your family would like a break away from the city, please contact us to find out more.

In the mean time, please stay safe and look after you families and neighbors. Kia Kaha,
