Snow Park NZ leads the charge against mother nature, being the first ski area to open the Wanaka region, conquering the unseasonably warm temperatures!

With a 30cm base on Snow Park NZ's popular box run, patrons were treated to a great days skiing and boarding, under perfectly blue, sunny skies.

The New Zealand Ski Industry Federation (NZSIF) also hosted their annual Ski Industry Demo day, adding to the excitement on the mountain.

"I was amazed when I saw how much snow was there with such little time to prepare everything," said local Wanaka snowboarder Mack James. "It was so warm just last week! I'm stoked. Definitely coming back tomorrow."

Recent cold temperatures allowed for top-to-bottom snowmaking over the past week, transforming Snow Park NZ into the winter wonderland that attracts snow enthusiasts from far and wide. With more runs expected to open soon, it's a great start to an unusually warm winter.

Snow Park NZ is scheduled to be open seven days a week. Additional terrain with night skiing on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights will open as snowmaking and additional snowfall permit.

2011 looks to be another exciting season for Snow Park NZ, with a number of new developments and initiatives, including the purchase of two new Pisten Bully 400 Snow Groomers, the introduction of the new Snow Park School, a brand new rental department, a magic carpet for beginners, a tubing run, and planned back country snow cat skiing and riding.
