Location


Travelling west on Highway 73, follow the signposts to Arthurs Pass. The Porters turnoff is well labelled on the left, about 10km from the top of the Porters Pass. The access road is a short unsealed road which winds its way up to the car park.

The two year old Porters Cafe caters for everyone, from great coffee, sandwiches, pies and drinks, to DYI BBQ's in the courtyard.

Ski & Board Rental

Ski & snowboard gear, and clothing is available for rent at the ski area.  Over a third of their hire equipment was replaced in 2008 with brand new carving skis and snowboards. Seasonal hire is available.

Mountain Shuttle

Don't have chains for your car? Well that's no reason to miss out on great skiing! Jump on our FREE shuttle bus that runs from the chain-fitting area on the Porters Ski Area access road.

Shuttles run every 30 minutes, however if you want the shuttle on a weekday or outside the holiday period, just give us a bell, or send us an email, and we'll arrange it for you.

About Porters

Porters lifts run up two distinct valleys. It has ample beginners terrain, with two beginner tows just above the beginner area. There is plenty of on-piste for the intermediate to advanced.

The off-piste is dominated by two faces, Big Mama which towers above the true right of the base area, and Bluff Face which towers above the true left. At 620m, Big Mama boastes one of the largest verticle drops in one lift-accessed run in New Zealand.
