Travelling west on Highway 73, follow the signposts to Arthurs Pass. The Porters turnoff is well labelled on the left, about 10km from the top of the Porters Pass. The access road is a short unsealed road which winds its way up to the car park.

Ski & snowboard gear, and clothing is available for rent at the ski area. Over a third of their hire equipment was replaced in 2008 with brand new carving skis and snowboards. Seasonal hire is available.

Mountain Shuttle
Don't have chains for your car? Well that's no reason to miss out on great skiing! Jump on our FREE shuttle bus that runs from the chain-fitting area on the Porters Ski Area access road.
Shuttles run every 30 minutes, however if you want the shuttle on a weekday or outside the holiday period, just give us a bell, or send us an email, and we'll arrange it for you.

About Porters
Porters lifts run up two distinct valleys. It has ample beginners terrain, with two beginner tows just above the beginner area. For the intermediate sker or boarder Porters offers a huge variety of runs accessed by the three T-Bars.
The more advances skier or snowboarder will enjoy Big Mama which towers above the true right of the base area, and Bluff Face which towers above the true left. At 620m, Big Mama boastes one of the largest verticle drops in one lift-accessed run in New Zealand. Easy backcountry riding is alos available from the top of the T3 T-Bar, but it is advisable to sign in with the ski patrol before leaving the ski area boundary.
If you'd like to experience skiing or snowboarding for the first time, the Porters learner facilities are outstanding. The Ski Mat carpet-lift makes progression for beginners so easy, and the platter lift provides one of the best intermediate slopes for snowsports skill development in the country. A fantastic 120 seat cafe is a great place to enjoy a delicious coffee between runs, with superb views over the Torlese Range.
The Porters Communittee Park has undergone more development and now offers a great training ground for those looking to develope their freestyle skills. The snowmaking system has been strengthened further with the purchase of two dedicated generators and a further fully automated snowgun. Porters winch groomer makes it even easier for grooming staff to deliver perfectly groomed slopes every morning.
