Skiora,
Thar she blows!! The only field between Queenstown and Ruapehu today to be open is Porters and I can see 6 people riding the T-bar. By gum they're hardy!! Check out the latest from Porters. Your good old fashioned blizzard today. It's The Remarkables 25th birthday today, they're having a retro party. I can see the fluoro from here. Sleet and snow showers around the base area with strong NW winds, ouch. Those one piece suits were never very water proof!! Take your gum boots if you're going to Coronet today... let's be optimistic the freezing level will drop to 1700m so hopefully there'll be snow later today. It's a white out at Whaka today and the T's are on hold due to low vis. Expect clearing conditions in the south tomorrow and then another low to role in from the north on Tuesday, and affecting the South Island on Wednesday.
Another plug for Rob Gordon who is a snowboard instructor at Ruapehu. Last week he completed a 17km and 1000 metres climb up the Turoa road, and then hiking/climbing to the summit from the base area, another 4kms and 1200 metres climb, then boarded down and then run back down the mountain road to the Powderkeg. It's a total distance of 42kms, the same as a marathon, but with 2200 meters of ascent. He did this in less than 6 hours. WHY? I hear you ask. To raise money for Adaptive Snowsports to enable disable people participate in our sport at Mt Ruapehu. Gutsy!! Snowco challenges you to link through and make a $5 donation (or more if you like) because we think that this effort is worth more than $3,500. DONATE HERE.
